National Grid is hiring a Supervisor, Transmission Line Inspection and Maintenance out of our Syracuse, NY location. The position requires travel of 25%- 50% and comes with a company vehicle.

Job Purpose

  • To increase overall transmission system reliability by providing contractor oversight of all Transmission overhead line inspection and maintenance programs. Primary activities include coordination and contractor crew supervision of ground and aerial vendors including steel tower painting, steel footer inspection and repair, wood pole inspection and treatment, helicopter inspections (emergency/storm and routine) and ROW maintenance.

Key Accountabilities

  • Plan and supervise the daily work activities of ground and aerial contractors for transmission maintenance programs and projects.
  • Provide quality assurance that work is performed in accordance with all specifications, company standards & Electric Operating Procedures (EOP’s), and contract documents.
  • Where required, plan and submit timely transmission line outage applications (TOA’s) and serve as the authorized clearance person.
  • Coordinate all post fault helicopter patrol activities for trip/recloses and lockouts on an emergency basis including weekend call out as well as emergency storm events.
  • Assure that the highest standards of safety for all work locations are met.
  • Ensure that contractor Health & Safety Plans (HASP) are pertinent to the project, current, and followed.
  • Participate in and lead incident analysis (IA) teams as required.
  • Assure compliance to all federal, state, local and company safety and environmental guidelines, laws and regulations.
  • Monitor program and vendor progress including invoicing, spend and budgets.
  • Provide the interface between field functions and stakeholders.
  • Proactively work with Asset Management on the development of the fiscal year programmatic work plan.
  • Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, survey site locations for inspection & access considerations, and attend program meetings.
  • Prepare and present verbal and written reports regarding work assignments and progress.
  • Ensure highest standard of professionalism when interacting with internal and external customers.
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Three to five years transmission or distribution line construction & maintenance field supervisory experience.

Qualifications

  • Two-year technical or Associate degree in construction management or engineering, or relevant professional experience.
  • Current, qualified “Clearance and Control” certification or ability to become qualified within three months.
  • Thorough understanding of electrical utility and civil construction principles, equipment, work methods and hazards associated with electrical T&D work along with how to mitigate potential hazards.
  • Ability to read and interpret job scope of work documents, construction prints, electrical one-line drawings, technical specifications and contract documents.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, local, OSHA, and company safety procedures (EOPs, HASPs and PHAs) and environmental standards/regulations.
  • MS Office skills (Excel, SharePoint and MS Teams).
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy.
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills with ability to establish internal and external relationships at all management levels.
  • Ability to travel and work throughout the service territory for extended periods (overnight stays, extended hours and weekends as needed) in support of emergency/storm situations.

Salary

$103,000- $121,000 a year
