National Grid is hiring a Supporting Consents Officer within National Grid Venture’s Lands & Consents function business.

Due to an increasing portfolio of emerging UK-based projects in NGV’s business, we are seeking to grow the Lands and Consents team (L&C) which operates across NGV’s diverse portfolio of low carbon and renewable energy projects.

You’ll play a role in expanding the knowledge, skills and capability in planning and consenting major infrastructure projects.

As a Supporting Consents Officer, you will be responsible for securing the necessary permits and consents for our emerging projects. You will be responsible for the contractual and financial performance of 3rd parties as well as providing oversight on their technical activities.

Reporting to the Consents Manager, you’ll use your knowledge to support our project teams developing new assets with an immediate focus on offshore hybrid assets and interconnectors to Europe.

We offer flexible hybrid working arrangements. We’d hope to see you in our Warwick office one or 2 days a week, and you’ll also need to be flexible to travel to other offices and project sites as required.

What you'll do

• You will support more senior members of the consents team to develop and deliver effective consents strategies.
• You will develop and manage engagement strategies for strategic stakeholders and support the effective relationship management through the projects.
• Coordinate the planning and delivery of environmental surveys and assessments in line with programme and team quality assurance processes.
• Collaboration with technical specialists within NGV to optimise delivery and ensure risks and issues are identified and mitigated/managed.
• Support and/ or lead on consultations with regulatory authorities and statutory nature conservation bodies.
• Support and participate in (public) stakeholder consultation.
• You will proactively captured and manage risks associated with delivering an effective consent and/ or where reputational impacts of unmitigated risks are understood.
• Follow the standard governance processes in the project and workstreams. Review and quality assure technical and reporting outputs from 3rd party suppliers.
• You will be proactive in capturing and sharing lessons learned so that they can be communicated within the wider consents team to drive a culture of continuous improvement.

What you'll need

• Degree or equivalent in environmental topics, Town Planning or Environmental Planning.
• Professional Membership, or working towards membership, of an accredited body such as (but not limited to) the Energy Institute or the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).
• Experience in the delivery of consents and environmental impact assessment (EIA) related activities in support of construction projects during the development and / or delivery phases of projects.
• You’ll be comfortable to undertake interactions and communications with critical stakeholders such as Local Planning Authorities and Statutory Consultees.
• Capability in effectively working within a multi-disciplinary consents and environmental team comprising both internal and external resources, to deliver consents, stakeholder engagement and EIA related activities.
• Understanding of energy infrastructure planning and policy to support project development and delivery.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with an ability to present information to large and/or challenging external audiences.
• Professional Membership, or working towards membership, of an accredited body such as (but not limited to) the Energy Institute or the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).
• Affiliation or professional membership with: RITP, IEMA or equivalent planning/ environmental body (Desirable)

A competitive salary between £42,781 - £50,000 per annum– dependent on capability.
