National Grid is hiring a Data Governance Analyst for our Electricity Distribution (NGED) team. This role is designated as hybrid, with an expectation of one or two days per month in one of our offices. Requirements may vary based on business needs and company policy.
About the Role
Reporting to the Data Governance Lead, the Data Governance Analyst isresponsible for supporting the implementation and operation of NGED’sdata governance framework, ensuring data assets are well defined, wellmanaged and compliant with internal and regulatory requirements.
This role plays a key part in improving data quality, transparency and trustacross NGED by embedding governance controls into day to day datadelivery and operational processes. The Data Governance Analyst willwork closely with data engineers, insight analysts, data scientists andbusiness stakeholders to ensure governance is applied consistently andpragmatically across data platforms, data products and reportingsolutions.
In addition to hands on governance delivery, the role requires strongcommunication and organisational skills to support data ownership,stewardship and governance awareness across the organisation. Thesuccessful candidate will contribute to the continuous improvement ofNGED’s data governance maturity and support the adoption of bestpractice data management approaches.
What You'll Do
- Support the implementation and day to day operation of NGED’s datagovernance framework, policies and standards.
- Maintain data ownership and stewardship records, ensuring roles,responsibilities and accountability are clearly documented and kept upto date.
- Support data cataloguing, metadata management and data lineagecapture using governance tools such as AWS DataZone or equivalentplatforms.
- Assist in defining, implementing and monitoring data quality rules toensure data accuracy, completeness and consistency.
- Identify, track and support the resolution of data quality issues, workingwith delivery teams to ensure clear ownership and timely remediation.
- Embed data governance controls into data pipelines, data products andreporting solutions in collaboration with data engineering and analyticsteams.
- Support compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements,including data protection, retention and audit obligations.
- Produce governance reporting and metrics covering data quality,metadata coverage, lineage and policy adherence.
- Provide guidance and support to data owners, stewards and deliveryteams on governance expectations and best practices.
- Contribute to data literacy and governance awareness activities,including documentation, guidance and training materials.
- Support Agile delivery principles and contribute to the efficientexecution of governance related initiatives.
About You
- Practical understanding of data governance principles including dataownership, stewardship, quality, metadata and lineage.
- Experience working with data governance, cataloguing or metadatamanagement tools such as AWS DataZone, Collibra or Informatica.
- Understanding of data quality concepts, profiling techniques and issuemanagement processes.
- Ability to work with technical teams and understand data pipelines, datamodels and reporting solutions.
- Strong attention to detail with a structured and methodical approach todocumentation and controls.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain governancerequirements to both technical and non technical audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross functional teams across dataand business domains.
- Experience working in regulated environments or with data protectionand compliance requirements is desirable.
- Familiarity with cloud based data platforms such as AWS is desirable.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
What You'll Get
