National Grid is hiring a Group Senior Responsible Business Manager to join the Sustainability team reporting directly to the Chief Sustainability Officer.

In the sustainability team, our focus is on the environment and communities. We drive sustainability through National Grid, weaving sustainability into our strategic direction, through influencing the external environment to changing the business. We are a thread through the S&R team and the conscience of NG on sustainability.
To ensure success we partner with all Business Units and Functions, providing expertise and coaching as they develop commercial and credible sustainability plans. We also provide transparency on delivery to ensure we meet our targets.
The purpose of this role is to is to lead the Responsible Business team and help set the strategy for sustainability at National Grid.
The role is hybrid so you can enjoy working from our Warwick office, as well as working from home.
What you'll do
- Support the delivery of a new sustainability strategy which meets external expectations and responds to evolving external environment:
- Oversee the delivery of a refreshed Responsible Business Charter that will inform strategy
- Benchmark our activities and horizon scan to strategically advise on change
- Oversee NG's memberships in external ESG organisations to ensure that we are ahead of trends/make informed decisions
- Work with Corporate Affairs on Sustainability opportunities, such as speaking events/sponsorships to ensure we show up well externally
- Engage in external facing activity, such as conferences, panels etc and bring back insights to ensure that we continue to respond to the evolving external environment
- Support the establishment of the Sustainability Centre of Excellence (CoE) by driving simplification of reporting and meeting reporting requirements:
- Further simplify sustainability reporting to ensure we continue to meet stakeholder needs
- Use data and analytics to inform FY26 reporting and decision making
- Continue to enhance the online presence/experience of RB information to ensure that we show up well compared to industry peers
- Oversee the delivery (and adherence) to Sustainability related policies and risk to ensure best practice across the Group
- Oversee and provide guidance on all Sustainability related governance to ensure smooth decision making and line of sight
- Oversee co-ordination of ESG support for Investor Relations to ensure that we show up well and in a timely manner to these key stakeholders
Support fully embedding the new operating model, meeting the needs of the business: - Establish the ‘new’ team – clear objectives, job descriptions and roles and responsibilities so individuals have clear ownership and accountability for their role and related activities
- Stakeholder mapping and management in place to enable the team to be relationship led as well as process led
- Support the identification and development of talent for a successful CoE:
- Ensure all team members have clear job descriptions, objectives and development plans so they own and drive their development
- Provide access to training and development opportunities so they individuals can make informed choices
What you'll need
- Experience of managing a team
- Experience in leading and delivering group wide projects/strategy and building strong relationships with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience in Sustainability communications.
- Understanding of the utilities sector, and relevant internal/external influences (governmental, regulatory, NGOs, communities, employee relations, media, agencies, industry bodies).
- Strong Project and Stakeholder Management skills.
- Highly articulate and persuasive communicator.
- Proven ability to contribute to an engaging and high-trust team.
- Ability to work individually or as part of a team.
- Ability to adapt to change in requirements.
- Highly organized with excellent attention to detail, flexibility and the ability to work under pressure to meet targets.
- Able to meet tight deadlines and establish clear priorities.
- Able to manage and prioritise complex, competing communication issues – maintaining high standards and alignment with National Grid strategy.
- Pro-active, can-do attitude, self-starter with the drive to make an impact.
What you'll get
A competitive salary between £72,000 - £86,000 per annum– dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
