At National Grid, we keep people connected and society moving. But it’s so much more than that. National Grid provides the environment for our teams to thrive and make a real impact. As we drive momentum in the energy transition for all, we are committed to ensuring that every employee feels empowered and engaged. So, join us as a Senior Finance Business Partner – Regulatory Finance, and find your superpower.

We’re looking for a Senior Finance Business Partner – Regulatory Finance to play a pivotal role in shaping the next Ofgem price control for National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) —directly influencing the revenue and investment framework for FY28–FY32 and supporting the UK’s transition to Net Zero.

As a senior member of the team, you’ll help establish core structures, processes and timelines while working closely with senior leaders across Finance, Regulation and the business. As the programme moves forward, you’ll lead a small team and take ownership of the TOTEX (Opex and capex) finance workstream, ensuring our investment plans are strategic, evidence based and aligned with future energy needs.

You’ll challenge proposals, bring regulatory insight into decision making, and act as a key link between Ofgem, internal stakeholders and the wider business. This is a high impact role with significant visibility, shaping the business plan that will guide our investment strategy through to the end of the decade.

This role is based out of our Warwick office, and we’d hope to see you at least two days per week with some regional travel but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the TOTEX finance workstream and develop the FY28–FY32 business plan submitted to Ofgem.
  • Shape the overall programme set up, including governance, RAPIDs, timelines, team structure, finance processes and data foundations.
  • Challenge investment proposals, bring Ofgem’s perspective into the business, and ensure plans are well evidenced and aligned with future needs.
  • Work with Finance Business Partners, Regulation and the business to build and consolidate inputs for draft and final plans, including supporting narrative development and governance presentations.
  • Maintain strong engagement with senior stakeholders to ensure alignment on key decisions and key strategic outcomes.
  • Lead costing analysis and benchmarking to support and challenge cost assumptions, to develop a cost strategy that supports the overarching commercial strategy.
  • Produce accurate cost data tables for submission and ensure correct translation of agreed numbers.
  • Act as a key contact for Ofgem through the cost assessment process, supporting the development and delivery of our key strategies.

What You’ll Have

  • You’ll be a Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with strong planning, forecasting and budgeting experience.
  • A solid track record in reporting financial information, building evidence through benchmarking, and analysing cost drivers and business cases.
  • Confident communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across a wide range of stakeholders.
  • A proactive, self starting mindset with strong analytical capability and a problem solving approach.
  • Clear leadership qualities, both through direct line management and influencing across teams.
  • Strong commercial acumen and technical accounting knowledge, with experience driving performance in a business area.
  • The ability to influence decisions through insight, challenge and effective stakeholder engagement.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with examples of delivering sustainable process or performance enhancements.
  • An interest in developing expertise in regulated industries—prior experience isn’t essential (but is an advantage ), but you’ll quickly build knowledge of the RIIO framework to support the business.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace for everyone. So, if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.

What You'll Get:

Competitive Salary dependant on experience.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance with on target being 20% (with a maximum of 40%) and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%, Private Medical Insurance, A company electric vehicle or cash alternative, plus many more flexible benefits.
