National Grid is hiring a Portfolio Analyst on a permanent basis. The location for this role can be based in Plymouth, Bristol, Warwick or possibly other UK Wide locations. This role is designated as hybrid, with an expectation of a few days per month in the office. Requirements may vary based on business needs and company policy.
Job Purpose
As Portfolio Analyst, you'll be responsible for providing analytical support and insights across various IT and portfolio disciplines, including financial operations (FinOps), resource capacity and utilisation, risk management (RAID), compliance, and vendor tracking. This role is essential in providing assurance and insight into the effective execution and delivery of digital initiatives. This includes promoting cost efficiency and adherence to regulatory standards through technical,analytical, and portfolio reporting and play a vital role in supporting the Portfolio Lead in strategic decision-making and enhancing overall IT&D portfolio performance. You'll be expected to be a subject matter expert in their respective discipline, fostering collaboration, continuous improvement, and adaptability.
What you'll do
- Analyse a portfolio of digital projects utilising Agile methodologies.
- Offer insights to ensure that projects and Initiatives align withn strategic business objectives.
- Support real-time financial processes, reporting and forecasting for digital projects.
- Assist in the optimisation of cloud costs and infrastructure expenses through financial analysis.
- Support Finance and IT&D Product Owners to promote cost efficiency and value delivery.
- Analyse and predict resource capacity needs for ongoing and future projects.
- Monitor resource usage and provide insights to adjust plans based on demand and organisational goals.
- Track risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies related to the portfolio.
- Support the development and implementation of mitigation strategies and action plans.
- Facilitate resolution of RAID items to minimise portfolio delivery disruptions.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies.
- Assist with regular compliance audits and assessments.
- Assist in managing relationships with external vendors and service providers.
- Track vendor performance and product lifecycles to ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled.
- Take ownership of own personal development and career progression.
- Champion the Agile frameworks (Scrum and Kanban) within the team, ensure that Agile principles are practiced by peers and understood by stakeholders.
- Undertake other duties from time to time as required by the Head of Portfolio.
About you
- Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability todefine a clear product vision and roadmap.
- Passion for creating outstanding user experiences and a deep understanding of user needs.
- Familiarity with digital technologies, agile methodologies, and project management tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with good interpersonal skills to effectively convey ideas and updates to diverse stakeholders.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire cross-functional teams (coaching, training, facilitating and collaborating).
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on data-driven solutions.
- Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment and adapt to new challenges, shifting priorities, demands and timelines and quickly update stakeholders on impact (potential or actual).
- Ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences, clearly and concisely.
- Strong commercial awareness and prioritisation skills.
What you'll get
- Competitive Salary: circa £43,000 – £50,000 per annum (based on capability, and experience)
