This is an exciting opportunity to join a great project team and to play a key role in the UK’s transition to clean energy within Strategic Infrastructure team as a Quantity Surveyor for Eastern Green Link 4, an exciting HVDC project delivered as a Joint Venture, where you'll be responsible for providing contract and commercial administration and guidance to project teams during the development and delivery of large and complex infrastructure projects ensuring that they are achieved safely, on time and within budget. Our customers include everyone who uses electricity in England and Wales. Acting on behalf of these people, you’ll help ensure that we deliver our projects in the most commercially effective way.

In this role you can enjoy our hybrid working from office, site and home.

You'll be flexible to regular travel to sites in England and Scotland and working from National Grid or our Joint Venture office as required.

You'll also have a driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK.

What You'll Do

You’ll support the Lead Quantity Surveyor, Contracts & Commercial Manager and wider Project team in providing guidance on commercial and contract management considerations and advising on contract options and budget estimates, including risk & contingency allowances.

You’ll be responsible for the quality assurance of construction contracts, including maintaining accurate contractor data records, providing commercial and contract management support, guidance and coaching to the project delivery team and ensure contractor costs are robustly managed across your package in line with the Contract and Joint Venture processes.

You’ll ensure contract compliance through effective contract management activities including monitoring of spend against agreed budgets, KPIs, risk costing and other metrics. Helping your project team develop and maintain cost forecasts will be a key responsibility.

Alongside the Lead Quantity Surveyor, you will produce all necessary contract forms such as valuations and payment recommendations and instructions and communications for the assigned project, leading on providing independent reviews and advice on variations and compensation events, supporting any escalation procedures and dispute avoidance and resolution processes.

You will represent the Contracts & Commercial team on tender events where necessary and demonstrate a value for money mindset throughout the process.

You’ll build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders, including Project Managers, Planners, Accountants, Operational colleagues and other specialists, contractors, and colleagues in procurement, regulation and legal teams, reaching out to senior stakeholders for assistance when it is needed.

About You

This is an experienced Quantity Surveyor role on a large-scale Joint Venture project. You will have experience of delivering several projects already and be able to demonstrate experience of contract and commercial management, stakeholder engagement, risk management, and procurement.

You will have a degree in quantity surveying or a related discipline such as construction management or construction law. You will also have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working as a QS or Assistant QS on construction projects and an understanding of NEC4 contracts (Option E) and FIDIC (Silver Book).

Ideally you will have experience on infrastructure projects, but this isn’t essential as you might have a contractor or consultant background, for example.

You also have a driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK. There is an expectation that you’ll be able to travel to site as and when required, but as part of our hybrid working model you’ll also have the flexibility to work from home, a National Grid or Joint Venture office, or site.

What You'll Get

A competitive starting salary between £55,000 – £68,000 – dependent on capability.

You'll also receeive anannual mon perfornance payment of £3,000 additionally as well as a brand new electric or hybrid vehicle.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
