Senior Project Manager.

About the role

At National Grid, we light up the world by harnessing the unique strengths of our people. Join us as a Senior Project Manager to be part of a team that's driving forward the energy transition, creating a brighter, more sustainable future for all. Unleash your superpower and bring energy to life.

National Grid is hiring Senior Project Managers for our Infrastructure Delivery department in East Anglia and Hertfordshire.

National Grid’s electricity transmission network is undergoing a once-in-a-generation transformation to support the journey to net zero. As Senior Project Manager you are at the heart of delivering the Grid upgrades that directly enable the UK’s Net Zero goals, leading a team of Project Managers in construction projects delivering Grid connections to wind farms, solar farms and battery storage – all of which will provide clean and affordable energy. Other connections could be giga factories, data centres and distribution networks, vital for our economy, technological advancement and the transition to greener transport and heat.

As a Senior Project Manager within our Central East team, you'll play a leading role in delivering critical substation new-build and extension work that is essential to the UK's clean energy future, delivering Grid connections to wind farms, solar farms and battery storage. Other connections could be giga factories, data centres and distribution networks, vital for our economy, technological advancement and the transition to greener transport and heat.

This is an opportunity to lead complex, high-profile programmes, influence strategic decisions, and make a lasting impact on one of the country's most ambitious infrastructure investment plans.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is going to take the job personally! Someone who is going to be committed to getting their portfolio of works delivered safely, on time and to budget. You will have a background employing project and/or contract management practice on engineering projects in a related field or discipline.

You’ll have strong commercial acumen with demonstrable experience of leading cross-functional teams and managing a wide stakeholder environment. You’ll be a self-starter who is good at playing devil’s advocate and foreseeing potential problems. You may have experience outside of a client role as either contractor or consultant. We value a range of backgrounds and experience - you don’t have to be an electrician to thrive in this role.

You’ll ideally have a degree or qualification in engineering, project management, business management or equivalent experience, and you will need a driving license that permits you to drive in the UK.

Training and development

We are keen to see our people progress and will support you in gaining the qualifications and skills you need to develop, bespoke to your needs and those of the business.

What's in it for you?

  • Salary of £73,000 - £83,000 dependent on experience and capability
  • Company car
  • Annual Performance Based Bonus up to 30% of your base salary
  • 28 days annual leave plus eight statutory days, and the option to buy additional or sell holiday days
  • Generous contributory pension scheme – we will double-match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%
  • Financial support to help cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions, course fees, books, exam fees and time off for study leave – so long as it’s relevant to your role
  • Access to several flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few
  • Family care benefits including a back-up care service for when your usual care arrangements fall through (six paid days each year as standard with the option to purchase further days)
  • Access to numerous apps which support health, fitness and wellbeing
  • Hybrid working dependent on the role
